Hello, lovely people. How do you do? Me? Just as busy. Essay, reading, and long-winded homework lessons. Still playing catch-up. I do have a lot of fun things at work, though. Things like a fun show, a funner short, and a spooky radio show. Hopefully, new episodes of a podcast, too. Busy, busy, busy.
A portion of my hall flooded today. I stepped out of my room and saw a catastrophe of the highest order. a dozen faces scrabbling around, some with tears in their eyes, others trying to comfort, towels lining doors, big furniture items in the common area. I stepped out of my dorm because I had a Garnet and Black meeting at 6, and it was already 5:45. I froze for a moment, not sure what to do, not sure there was anything I could do. Official-looking building staff had already started to show up, as well as maintenance guys with big fans and shop-vacs. I wanted to help, but I feared I would have just gotten in the way, and I had a meeting I could not miss happening in a building about 10 minutes away. I ended up walking awkwardly to the elevator. I deeply regret that choice. I deeply regret not offering a hand. I probably wouldn't have been able to anything to do anything at all, but maybe I could have added some comfort to someone's awful day. It is a guilt I will have to make up for in the future. And I implore you to do the same. Don't be like me and assume your ineptitude; strive to be more than you think you are. I think we could all do a little better at that. I plan to knock on those doors tomorrow to check in and see if I can do anything.
I apologize if I seem absent-minded. I have a lot on my mind. I do fear I will be just as busy tomorrow, too. I may not be able to write a nice, long piece until Thursday or Friday.
I do want to leave you with a request in the meantime. Read more Calvin and Hobbes. It heals the soul.
sincerely,
Calvin Landreth
P.S. Just found out that the folks displaced are being temporarily moved to a private townhouse and are throwing a party. Making the most of the situation, I suppose.
