What a day. Best described as overwhelming. Classes were fine, but the student organization fair was like walking from a library to a stadium. The number of different organizations was frankly baffling. I caused a great fire in me that I had to face and deal with. Back in high school, almost any opportunity that came my way I took, at least for z little while. I felt most comfortable with my hand in all the pies (even if it wasn't so good for my mental health). Here, though, possibilities seem endless. I had to face within myself that I just can't do it all, and that hurt a bit. Even after coming to terms with that fact, I think I signed up for a little too much.
Big aside here, I just used what's called litotes. You may already know what that is, and that's brilliant, but I didn't until yesterday, and I would be just remiss if I didn't try to teach it to other people. So litotes is a literary technique that uses a double negative to suggest to the reader that im underestimating something. It allows the brain to fill in the rest. I think that's very neat.
Anyhoo, I joined a bunch of clubs. Or at least signed up for the group me. I guess the next step is to actually go to the interest meetings, pay to dues, and find what suits me. I went off all the Garnet Media stuff, of course: Garnet and Black (the magazine), The Daily Gamecock (The Newspaper), WUSC (the radio station), and SGTV (visual media). Some clubs I "joined," which might surprise you, are The Scuba Club, The Mountaineering Club, The Fencing Club, and The Badminton Club. Some clubs I "joined," which probably won't, are both D&D clubs, the Political and experimental theater club, the Creative Writing club, and the Charcuterie club. It has been a lot, and I will probably drop some once I feel the waters a little more. Who knows what will happen, though?
I know it's a short one, and I do have more to say, but that is all for now. I do want to give special thanks and appreciation to my wonderful family for sending such a brilliant and useful care package. I love you guys.
Till next time,
Calvin Landreth
