Good evening! How do you do? I'm exhausted. A good exhausted, though. It was a very rainy day today. The first of likely many. It was a beautiful gray day outside my window when I woke. The rain was steady, never truly downpouring, but barely letting up either. I should have worn my cloak, but it may be best to get to know people a little better before deploying that wonderful thing. I think gray skies are beautiful. I think they make colors more saturated in comparison. Maybe it is for that reason that I truly noticed how beautiful UofSC's campus is for the first time today. The trees are all stunning, and they are so ingrained with the buildings and pathways, and streets. The brick streets are so wonderfully uneven and imperfect from age. The architecture of the buildings, from all the different eras, complements each other so well; they speak to each other in sweet poems that elevate rather than diminish. So many lush greens and browns and garnets frame everything in the most ornate and intricate images. It is simply beautiful.
Ever since I conceived this project, I hadn't planned to write on the weekends. I pictured that it would be every school day. You can see me say that in my trial correspondence: correspondence 0. Although I'm frankly split on whether that should be the case or not. I don't want to miss the opportunity to share a crazy story if it happens on the weekend. I also wrote a correspondence for the Saturday and Sunday I moved in. On the other hand, I don't want to set a precedent that I am going to write a post on Thanksgiving break when I'm just chilling back home. So I don't think I will post on the weekend or on school holidays. These will more or less follow the school calendar exactly. But, as a compromise, I will write down anything crazy that happens on the off days and will cover it on my business days. I will also continue to take my camera with me and add photos I take to a special weekend post. My weekends will be told through photos more or less.
I acknowledge it's a short one day, so it goes sometimes. I am exhausted. I can't wait to put on pjs, get cozy on my couch, and watch season two episode 1 of Peacemaker. I survived week one. I think that should count for something.
That's all for now, looking forward to talking with you again on Monday. Until then,
Calvin Landreth
